01 · Questions & Band 9 answers
Q: How often do you use the internet?
Constantly, if I'm honest — it's woven into pretty much everything I do. I use it for work all day, and then in my free time for messaging friends, watching videos and looking things up. I'd struggle to get through a single day without it now, which is a slightly uncomfortable thing to admit.
answer, then a self-aware asideQ: What do you mainly use the internet for?
Mostly for work, since I run an online business, so a huge part of my day is spent researching, emailing and building things. Beyond that, it's my main source of entertainment and how I stay in touch with people. I also do almost all my shopping and banking online these days, which saves an enormous amount of time.
lead with the main use, then broadenQ: Do you use social media a lot?
Less than I used to, actually. I went through a phase of scrolling for hours, and honestly it left me feeling a bit drained, so I've deliberately cut back. Now I mostly use it to keep up with a few close friends rather than mindlessly following strangers. It feels much healthier that way.
contrast past and present habitsQ: Do you think you spend too much time online?
Almost certainly, yes. A lot of my screen time is genuinely necessary for work, but I know a fair amount of it is just aimless scrolling. Every so often I try to have a proper break from my phone at the weekend, and I always feel better for it — I just wish I did it more often.
admit it honestly, add a nuanceQ: How has the internet changed your daily life?
Enormously — it's hard to overstate it. It's made so many everyday tasks quicker and easier, from finding information in seconds to working from anywhere. On the flip side, it's also made it much harder to switch off, because you're always reachable. So it's been a huge convenience and a bit of a curse, all at once.
give both sides in one answer02 · Why this scores Band 9
Each answer commits to a clear line and develops it with a habit, reason or reflection, then stops. Relaxed signposts ("if I'm honest", "actually", "on the flip side") link the ideas naturally, so the delivery stays connected and never rambles.
Digital-life vocabulary is idiomatic and precise — "woven into everything I do", "aimless scrolling", "cut back", "always reachable", "switch off" — used casually the way a confident speaker actually talks.
Structures vary well: a past-vs-present contrast ("I went through a phase of scrolling for hours... I've deliberately cut back"), a causal "so" clause, and a balanced final structure ("a huge convenience and a bit of a curse, all at once"). All controlled accurately.
Short, speakable chunks with natural stress on the key words invite the easy, chatty intonation Part 1 rewards, with no awkward consonant clusters to trip over.

04 · Frequently asked questions
Is it okay to admit I spend too much time online?
Yes — an honest, reflective answer is more natural and interesting than a rehearsed one. Saying "probably too much, though a lot of it is for work" and adding a nuance shows exactly the developed, spontaneous speech band 9 rewards.
Can I mention specific apps or websites?
You can, briefly, but you do not have to. Talking about what you do ("messaging friends", "shopping online") is usually more natural than reeling off brand names, and it keeps the focus on your own habits.
How do I extend a short answer about the internet?
Add what you use it for, how often, or how you feel about it. "I use the internet a lot" becomes band-9 as "I'm online constantly, mostly for work, but I try to switch off at weekends." The extension carries the marks.
Should I give a balanced view?
For an opinion question, a quick both-sides answer sounds thoughtful ("a huge convenience and a bit of a curse"). Just keep it natural and concise — Part 1 is a warm-up, not a Part 3 discussion.
